Do You Know About This Sun Protection Strategy?
When considering protection from the sun, a couple of ideas come to mind. Wearing caps and shades and applying sunscreen, for example, are no-brainers for anybody hoping to protect their skin from UV rays. Be that as it may, there are a lot of different items and practices you can add to ward off those harmful UV rays. Tan lines may be fun but keeping your skin well protected should be our first priority. There may be even situations where we are exposing ourselves to UV rays without realizing it.
One of these situations is when you are riding or driving your car. You may not realize that while window glass blocks most UVB beams, the ones that can burn your skin, UVA beams, which can cause tanning and wrinkling, still get past them. (Both UVB and UVA rays can damage skin and cause skin cancer.) Window film, an overlay that blocks 99 percent of UV radiation, is a viable option that is frequently underused.
Matt Larson, MD is a dermatologist and a member of The Skin Cancer Foundation. In a Fox 9 News interview, he said the skin damage most of the people from the US get is on the left side of the body, the one that’s exposed to the sun while driving. Larson adds that itâs like sitting out in your yard for a long period of time but youâre just in the car.
When you think about it, Larson does have a point, since most of our time driving during the day; half of our skin is exposed. The risk driving has may just be as much as being out on the beach on a clear sunny day. The thing you may not know is that although the windshield of any typical American car has a UV filter built-in to it, the side windows usually do not have this feature, thatâs why you may still be at risk, even you think you are in the protection of your car.
This is alarming since skin cancer is the most common type of cancer in the US.
The good news is there are a couple of ways to prevent this from happening. One way is to tint your car windows. Tinting your windows significantly reduces the amount of UV rays that go inside the vehicle, thus, protecting you and your loved ones from solar harm. The downside of having tints is that it costs hundreds of dollars to install on your car, it is relatively expensive and not everyone has a few hundred dollars to spare right away, if at all. Not to mention, there are certain states that have strict laws against the installation of tints in vehicle windows, so itâs best to check your local laws if you plan to go with this option.
The other, less costly but equally effective solution to combat UV rays is by using premium skincare products that revitalize and nourish the skin.
